Driven by poverty and high unemployment, the country suffers from a high violent crime. Travelers should, in particular in the capital Maseru (environs of the Victoria Hotel in the town center), when traveling from Leribe to Katse dam, and at vantage points to be careful. Walks after dark, overland journeys in the dark and parking the vehicle in unlit streets are very dangerous.

Nearly all of Lesotho’s rain falls in the summer, between October and April. It’s beautiful and warm when the sun comes out, but mountain areas can be foggy and freezing.
